Mitchell Marcus, Artistic & Managing Director

Mitchell is the founding Artistic & Managing Director of Acting Up Stage Company - Toronto’s contemporary musical theatre company. Under his leadership, Acting Up Stage has won 7 Dora Mavor Moore Awards, 10 Toronto Theatre Critics’ Awards and has grown into an annual operating organization with a program of local productions, touring, education and new musical development. Outside of Acting Up Stage, Mitchell was the Associate Producer of Luminato for 6 years, working on the production and management of prestigious international theatre, dance and music projects including Einstein On The Beach, 1001 Nights, Rufus Wainwright’s Prima Donna, Black Watch, and new productions from Batsheva Dance Theatre, Nederlands Dans Theater, Mark Morris Dance Theatre and many others. Mitchell is also an educator of the next generation of arts administrators and artists through his role as ACM Fellow in Arts Management at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus, instructor at Ryerson University in the Theatre program and faculty member at the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts. Mitchell is an adviser to the Metcalf Foundation’s Creative Strategies Incubator Program, Sheridan College and the Canadian Musical Theatre Writers Collective.
