AUDITIONS FOR YOUNG MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMERS

WAIT! DID YOU KNOW THAT TODAY’S CONTEMPORARY MUSICAL THEATRE REPERTOIRE INCLUDES SONGS FROM ALL GENRES OF MUSIC THAT REFLECT TODAY’S YOUTH?

After the success of the One Song Glory event over the past two years, Acting Up Stage is again holding a one night celebration of musicals starring youth under 19 years old.

Performance:            Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Venue:                        Toronto Centre for the Arts Studio Theatre

Format:                      For three Saturdays, participants will train with professional directors and musical directors who work in the Toronto musical theatre scene. Each student will get the chance to learn and perform two musical theatre numbers – one in which they are featured and one where they will appear as part of a group. All of the material will be from the contemporary musical theatre canon. The work will be presented in two showcase performances at the Toronto Centre for the Arts and evaluated by a professional panel who will then provide a private feedback session. The panelist will include prominent Toronto agents, directors, and casting directors.

Audition Dates:         Sunday, September 28 and Sunday October 5, 2008

How will it work?

Students will audition with the material that they feel shows off their vocal style. We want students from ALL styles of music—that’s right, we’re looking for those who sing OPERA, ROCK, POP,—you name it, and there is a contemporary musical theatre song in that style. The audition will be for the artistic team (directors, musical directors) who will then choose the performers that they want to be a part of it.  If you are chosen, you will be singing songs that the artistic team feels suitable to your voice.

Why do I want to be in this?

This is your chance to work with professional Toronto directors and musical directors on your skills to help improve your performance technique. This is an excellent way to expose your talents to an audience of 400 people in a Toronto theatre. Finally, the feedback that you will get from our celebrity panel will no doubt help you in your coming years.

What kind of commitment is this?

If selected you will be REQUIRED to attend three rehearsals (Saturday, November 1st, Saturday, November 8th, and Saturday, November 15th, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.) You will then need to be at the theatre on Sunday, November 16th, the day of the show, at 1:00 p.m. and remain until the show is completed. Participants must be available for all dates.

Is there a cost?

Nope. The entire program is provided free of charge.
