Tickets On Sale for Elegies in Toronto

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

Acting Up Stage Company has announced that tickets are on sale for Elegies the song cycle by Tony® award winning composer William Finn, beginning performances February 15th at the Berkeley Street Theatre Upstairs. The show is described as:

How do we deal with loss in a post 9/11 world? Through the 18 stories told onstage, Tony Award winner William Finn pays tribute to relatives and friends, long-lost pets, and the victims of 9/11, celebrating those who have passed on. Often hilarious, always touching, and very poignant, Elegies takes us on a musical journey that explores the modern world that we live in, and life’s infinite joys.

I am very much looking forward to this show as I am a big fan of Finn’s Spelling Bee and A New Brain. I also have never heard the music for the show so I will be able to go in with fresh ears. I am also excited about the amazing cast associated with the production. Thom Allison is an insane talent. Listening to him sing is an experience in and of itself. My other favourite local performer in the show is Steven Gallagher (pictured above). Every performance he gives is with such commitment and polish. In comedic roles he is hilarious and every performance of his I have seen he has never disappointed.

This is the third show under the leadership of Artistic Producer Mitchell Marcus who has blessed Toronto with high quality productions of small musical gems including tick tick…Boom! and john & jen. It is a short run so make your theatre going plans now and buy in advance on line. This is a great way to support musical theatre in Toronto.
