michael jones (director)

Michael Jones is pleased to be making his premiere with Acting Up Stage.  Primarily known as a musical director, Michael’s credits include work at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Drayton Entertainment, The Red Barn Theatre, and Victoria Playhouse Petrolia; he also worked with Paula Wolfson on the development of her one-woman show, Between Engagements.  His recent credits include serving as directing for Into the Woods at Etobicoke Musical Productions, serving as music director for The Last Resort at both the King's Wharf Theatre (Penetanguishene) and the Drayton Festival Theatre, and combining the two roles for Scarborough Music Theatre’s production of Carousel.  

mitchell marcus (artistic producer)

Mitchell is the founder and Artistic Producer of Acting Up Stage Theatre Company, producing last year’s Canadian premiere of Jonathan Larson’s tick, tick…BOOM! Outside of Acting Up Stage, Mitchell produced a successful production of David French’s Salt-Water Moon at the Theatre Centre and A Thousand Clowns for Encore Entertainment. For two years, Mitchell has served as the Production Coordinator for the It’s Always Something Variety Show at the Princess of Wales and Elgin Theatres, working closely with stars like Eric McCormack, Bryan Adams, Eugene Levy, Kim Cattrall, Drew Carey, Victor Garber and Colm Wilkinson. As an actor, Mitchell has performed across Ontario for many companies, including Drayton Entertainment, Thousand Islands Playhouse, Stirling Festival Theatre, Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, Sunshine Festival Theatre, and Theatre Aquarius. Mitchell is a graduate of York University 's Fine Arts Cultural Studies program with a focus in Arts Administration.

Cotton Patch Gospel (Georgian Theatre Festival); tick, tick… boom! (Acting Up Stage); Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill (Theatre Sheridan ); Dads! The Musical, Eight to the Bar, Suds, Forever Plaid (Bluewater Summer Playhouse). Upcoming: Falsetto's (Theatre Sheridan) and Candide (Regina Lyric Light Opera). Wayne is currently composing, arranging, and orchestrating various productions for the Smile Theatre Company. Originally from Saskatchewan , he is a graduate of the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto.

marc kimelman (choreographer)

Marc has worked as a performer and/or choreographer with Neil Young, Amber, Vanessa Olivarez, Simone Denny, Deborah Cox, Kurt Browning and Chaka Kahn. He has performed at the Air Canada Centre, Hummingbird Centre, the Princess of Wales theatre and recently finished playing Cosmo Brown in Singin’ in the Rain (Stirling Festival Theatre).  As well, Marc has trained extensively in New York City with numerous choreographers including Savion Glover.

Marc’s inventive, award-winning choreography has benefited many productions. He has choreographed West Side Story (Betty Oliphant Theatre), Little Shop of Horrors (Isabel Bader Theatre), Tick, Tick, Boom! (Acting Up Stage Productions), Oz Recalled (Toronto Fringe Festival) and was assistant Choreographer for Anne of Green Gables ( Randolph Academy ). He has choreographed for British clothing line ‘George’, Etobicoke School for the Arts, Global TV, BravoFact!, Toronto’s Pride Ball, the NBA Raptors and Fashion Cares Toronto.  He is assistant director/choreographer for Randolph ’s upcoming production of Urinetown and will be choreographing Grease and The Wiz this winter.  Marc is a part of the Helix Dance Project and is currently on faculty at the Randolph School for Performing Arts.

dot routledge (stage manager)

Dot has been involved in theatre in the Toronto area for the past 16 years as a Stage Manager and Actor. This is her second production with Acting Up Stage Theatre Company and she pleased to be working with this fine group of folks once again. Stage Management credits include: Book of Liz (God’s In The Dairy), Sunday School Drop Out (Fly On The Wall), Tick Tick Boom (Acting Up Stage Theatre Company), Stealing Freedom (Burning Bridges), The Eight: Reindeer Monologues (Spunky Monkey), Munsch Favourites, Jillian Jiggs and Paperbag Princess (Solar Stage) and ASM for Unidentified Human Remains (Crow’s Theatre/Buddies in Bad Times). As an actor her favourite credits include: Ilona Ritter - She Loves Me, Pheobe - As You Like It, Adelaide Guys & Dolls, Petra A Little Night Music and Cassandra – The Trojan Woman. When she’s not involved in theatre Dot can be found taming the crowds as the Assistant Manager, Box Office & Customer Service for the Toronto International Film Festival.

laura gardner (set designer)

A Toronto-based set and costume designer, Laura is in her first post-graduate year having completed York University ’s Theatre Design program.  Past productions include; set design for A Midsummer Nights’ Dream (The Classical Theatre Project); set design for Romeo & Juliet (The Classical Theatre Project); head of wardrobe for Doctor Barnardo’s Children and That Summer (4th Line Theatre); set design for Look Back in Anger (Shadowpath Productions); set design for Vacancy (The Creative Ensemble); design co-ordinator for Beneath the Banyan Tree (Theatre Direct); set design for The Life of Galileo (Theatre@York); and, costume design for The Seagull (Theatre@York). Laura’s next project is with Solar Stage, set designing their production of Little Red Riding Hood in April of 2006.

alex amini (costume designer)

Alex owns and operates Chifforobe Costume Rental in Toronto . She designs shows for dozens of theatre productions in the Toronto area, and is pleased to return to Acting Up Stage after designing last year’s tick, tick…BOOM!

gavin mcdonald (lighting designer)

Gavin has most recently designed The Glass Menagerie for Talk Is Free Theatre, The Affairs of Anatol for Glastonbury West Productions, Taking Wing for the School of Toronto Dance Theatre and Associate-Designed A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Classical Theatre Project.  He has just returned from working as an Assistant Lighting Designer for his 3rd season at the Stratford Festival, assisting on Sticks & Stones, Edward II, and Measure of Love/Ruth Draper on Tour.  His most exciting recent project however, is marrying fellow lighting designer, and all-around amazing woman, Heidi Lingren in early September. Upcoming: The Mikado for Clarkson Music Theatre in November, then Gavin is on tour with The Peggy Baker Dance Project in January and February, and returning to Stratford for his 4th season. Gavin is a Board Member-at-Large for the Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology, teaches Theatre Production for York University ’s Department of Dance, and has a BFA in Theatre Technical Production & Design from York University.
